      <image:title>Martin Ceramic - Welcome</image:title>
<image:caption>Just like our own individual stories, antiques hold a historic energy and a hidden tale that may only be revealed by its texture or in the cracks that we lovingly call ‘character’. I make molds of these objects and use the castings as sculptural details on the foot of a plate, edging of a vase, or as an accent on a tumbler. In these unique details, each piece carries with it a continuation of conversations. Enjoy browsing the website and feel free to book an appointment to see the pieces in person, tour the studio and learn how the pieces are made.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Have you seen the winter edition of Ah! At Home on the North Shore? I have the honour of being included in the 'Off the Wall' section. Crystal and I enjoyed a delightful visit at my studio. She is so engaging, warm and passionate about our community. Crystal captured the essence of my work with her story entitled ‘Turning to the past’. Ah! At home on the North Shore tagline is ‘from design ideas to food and wine, health and fitness to art and culture you will find it all AT HOME’. I love how the magazine connects us; we meet our neighbours, share ideas, celebrate our home and share our stories. We are all so blessed to live on the North Shore. Thank you Crystal for your curiosity, creative writing and illuminating our vibrant community.</image:caption>

Once it is leather hard, it is carved and a hole pierced to ensure the air does not get trapped and cause breaking during firing. This butter dish was handbuilt using clay slaps and decorated with sprig molds. It was designed to hold one pound of butter.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This little vase has a lovely round belly. After it was leather hard, I trimmed a foot then added castings from a sprig mold to the rim. Once it was bone dry, thin layers of Terra Sigillata were brushed on. After the bisque firing, I dripped copper oxide wash on the carvings and glazed the inside white. Once it was glazed fired, gold luster accents were added and the piece was fired for the third time.</image:caption>

Terra Sigillata is an ancient form of colouring clay slip with stains and oxides to seal and decorate functional ware. <image:title>Denise Lynch Ceramic Artist - Aha Moment</image:title>
<image:caption>During a craft market, when a mother purchased a vase for her daughter, I shared with her the piece's origin story. Nana and I shared the love of flea markets. As a gift for her, I painted an ocean scene in a flea market frame and she proudly hung it in the front room. It stayed there for over 40 years. The frame has the most beautiful arabesque scrollwork. In memory of Nana, I made castings of the scroll work and placed them around the edge of the vase. The piece was then coated with black terra sigillata, with matt gold and aged with patina. It occurred to me that others related to the innate desire to fill their space with memories of our loved ones. Nana’s frame now hangs above my pottery wheel.</image:caption>

These finds hold a historic energy and a hidden tale that may only be revealed by its texture or in the cracks that we lovingly call ‘character’. <image:caption>Craft Nova Scotia is the provincially recognized craft organization. It promotes work of its members locally, nationally, and internationally through retail craft markets, exhibitions, and publications. The Standards Assessment process is only one of the many ways in which Craft NS seeks to foster the ongoing development of fine crafts and to nurture the development of the individual craftsperson.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Grandpa was a coal miner, Nana was the soul of our family, and they lived in the Red Row. I loved visiting them, you never knew who’d be there, sweets were always on the table and a story was being shared. The museum art project revived precious memories. With a sketchbook in hand, my daughter and I enjoyed several afternoons soaking up exhibit stories. I’m pleased with the results; mugs echoing the Marsaut Lamp, Robb FlyWheel, and Samson Locomotive. The little Trenton Glass inspired nappy bowls are so pleasant with their dotted carved designs, I can see why they were popular dessert dishes.</image:caption>
